An extraordinary opportunity to stay in one of the most famous and influential schools in the world. It’s going to be a very British summer school!

A typical week at KKCL Harrow School Boarding House

Our Harrow School boarding houses are at the heart of the KKCL Harrow School experience. It is here where you will make new friends, sleep surrounded by the history and successes of generations of Harrovians before you, have the welcome and support of our House Master and House Parent, and settle into your new boarding school life!

During your induction, you are put into a ‘house’ so that you can mix and make friends from all over the world, and compete against each other to see which ‘house’ is the best. This system is how many British boarding schools are organised, and creates a dynamic and fun school environment.

The boarding houses are in close proximity to KKCL John Lyon's classrooms and all the world-class facilities that Harrow School offers. With sports activities ranging from swimming in an indoor pool to rock climbing and Harrow Fives interhouse competitions, our sports and games certainly have that something special! And don’t forget about the Fourth Form Room! This is where Harry Potter scenes were filmed, and is the location of our English Masterclass, during which you will compete in your ‘houses’ to practise your English and learn about the fascinating history of Harrow School at the same time!

Every day school starts with the House Master’s ‘Bill Call’ - Harrow terminology for roll call, then breakfast is served in the Harrow School Dining Hall where freshly prepared English-style breakfast is served with a range of hot drinks. You will then head off to either a full day of lessons at our Academic Centre or an excursion.

After dinner you will take part in fun evening activities, including British Culture Night, the KKCL Disco and BBQ party. At the end of a 2-week programme, the Graduation Ceremony is held in the Speech Room, where Winston Churchill made his famous speech. This is followed by a formal supper or BBQ party to celebrate your graduation!

The John Lyon School

Our main summertime academic centre is located at the John Lyon School. It is one of the leading independent schools in the UK with academic, sporting and artistic excellence, based in the picturesque Harrow-on-the-Hill. The JLS is connected to our Harrow year-round school via a short walk through leafy Harrow-On-The-Hill, and has modern academic facility that caters for up to 600 students.

Go Create! English

With Go Create! English students can have fun learning English and learn new skills too!

Many schools offer workshops and standard English lessons, but very few can offer the integrated experience that we do through our unique project based Go Create! English syllabus.

This exciting programme of themed lessons covers different aspects of popular culture and has been designed to offer students the highest level of experiential learning.

Go Create! English offers...

  • Dedicated syllabi for Go Create! Primary (7-10), Go Create! (A2 to B2) and Advanced levels, with project suited for the ability and age of the students - the Go Create! English syllabus enables students to produce written and spoken English inspired by the creative arts.

  • Students learn English through interactive and creative projects - this is an excellent way to encourage students from different countries to communicate in an easy and natural manner. The syllabus helps students improve their overall English language competence, in particular, speaking fluency, with pronunciation integrated into classroom activities.

  • Each school day has a tangible outcome allowing students to take samples of their work home and to share them with their parents and friends. These include recordings, videos, posters, podcasts and so much more!

  • We make every minute of the Go Create! English experience a teachable moment! There is a direct link between classroom based learning experience and places students visit during their stay.  Activity Leaders and Homestays Hosts are trained in basic teaching techniques to facilitate conversations with students so that every opportunity for learning is taken.
  • Dynamic, qualified teachers: This unique programme is designed and updated by English language teachers who have professional backgrounds in the film production, music and web design industries.

How We Teach:

  • English is the only language used in the classroom at all times!
  • Throughout the course, Task-Based & Project-Based Teaching and Learning methodology is used to help students develop the 21st Century skills of Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking and Intercultural Competence
  • Drama teaching techniques used during the lessons are aimed at increasing students’ confidence to help them become better communicators in English
  • Teacher guided peer and self-assessment is incorporated into the syllabus, with self-evaluation strategies used throughout the course to measure students’ progress, and to raise awareness about the importance of students’ taking control of their own learning

Go Create! English projects include...

  • Film ProductionStudents take roles as both actors and crew (lighting, sound, camera, director) to write,  shoot, and edit a short film
